Jimbo’s Lake Lanier Fishing Report: 5/24/18

Water Temp – 78 degrees

Water Level – .8 feet above full pool

The lake is back on the rise with the recent rain, and the surface temps are right around 79 degrees in the lower lake. The waters above Brown’s Bridge remained slightly stained in the main river areas and creek arms toward the backs.  The lower main lake is clear, and there is still some stain in the lower end creeks in places.

We have been fishing shallow, rock/sand/clay points and flats in the early mornings with flukes, topwater walking baits, redfins, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, and crankbaits.  All have produced well at times, it just depends on the day – as always.   So rotate your bait selections to zero in on the best bite on any given day.

Later in the day we have been moving out to the shallow brush on humps and points that are holding fish, particularly when the sun is up.  The deeper brush is starting to hold fish consistently as well and the Topwater/Swimbait bite is steadily improving. This has been working from about 9 am on into the day of late. This bite is becoming our focus for most of the day.

We really have not been focusing on the spawning fish, but those can certainly be caught.  I like a 4″ worm on a drop shot or 1/8 oz shaky head when targeting these fish, which you normally find in pockets and around docks as well.  A fluke is always a good search bait for these spawners, and they will almost always swing at it and give away their location, if not eat it.
